Mothers-in-law, under the umbrella of All India Mother-in-law Protection Forum, come together to protect themselves against harassment from daughters-in-law
Written by Manasi Paresh Kumar
Harassed mothers-in-law? Though the term sounds like a complete oxymoron, the 50-odd members of the All India Mother-in-law Protection Forum (AIMPF) who gathered at Cubbon Park on Sunday vehemently asserted their victim status.
Most of the women, who were in their late 50s, had the same story to tell. Their daughters-in-law had filed false cases against them and their families and they had no help because the mothers-in-law were the original stereotyped monsters. “Nobody wants to believe the grooms’ family, and the mothers-in-law can be a harassed lot,” said Meena Menon, whose daughter-in-law allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh to withdraw the dowry case against her family.
