The World Anti-Terrorism Day is observed all over the world on the 21st of May. Coincidentally, on the 20th of May 2005 Honorable Supreme Court of India termed misuse of Section as 498A as “Legal Terrorism” in its landmark judgment by Justice Arijit Pasayath.
Hence, in the same context, in India a day should be dedicated as “The Anti Legal- Terrorism Day”. It is the need of the present day as many unconstitutional, gender-biased, one-sided “wife-centric and “Draconian Laws’ such as Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code, Domestic Violence Act, the many Maintenance laws, Child-Custody and Divorce Law are being randomly “Misused” by “Wives” and “Daughters –in –law” only with the sole intention of harassing the husband and in-laws and extorting a huge amount either as “Alimony or Maintenance” by manipulation of facts and false allegations on the whole family.

The Domestic Violence Act was passed in 2005.and implemented in 2006 for the protection of women (Wife). But the Law-Makers have completely forgotten or rather ignored the fact that violence can be inflicted by the same wife on the members of the family either mentally, physically, emotionally, verbally, socially and financially in order to gain personal scores, to have financial control or to separate the husband from the parents. According to the law, only the wife can make a complaint and it does not require any proof for her to claim maintenance from the husband. With fabricated stories and crocodile tears she can easily register a false case .The judges feel it is their duty to protect even adulterous wives thus doing injustice to the victim husband and his family.
Each individual coming together make a family and a home. Many homes taken together make a society, a village, a town, a city and a country. But in India gradually the society is breaking up due to the domestic violence happening in each and every home. Why is it that in every family problems start only after a daughter in-law enters the home?
The Government is spending enormously in combating terrorism on the borders of the country but when will the issue of domestic terrorists in the guise of daughter- in- law who Misuses the laws and creates havoc in the families be properly tackled.

The famous quote “Marriages are made in Heaven” is proving to be false in the modern times, in most of the matrimonial homes the Mother-In-Law, (MIL) has brought up and maintained the Family for years but with coming of the “Daughter-In-Law, (DIL) problems start arising when she wants to make her husband and in- laws her puppets to have financial control in her hands, for her personal scores and to lead a luxurious life .
The Indian Government and the whole system including the Police the Judiciary, the Lawyers, the Bureaucrats the Society And Media are supportive and equally responsible for the present situation in the country where the concept of BREAKING – FAMILIES” is accepted as “Modern Living” The 15 “UNCONSTITIONAL LAWS” promoted by the “NCW” and acknowledged by the “LAW COMMISSION” has not benefited the society in any way as the real victims do not get justice but with the increasing “MISUSE” of laws like 498A and Domestic Violent Act has lead to violence and harassment to husbands’ family leading to destruction of the “INSTITUTION OF MARRIAGE”.

The Judges of courts are sitting on a” Responsible “and “Accountable “position. They have to be “unbiased “and” unprejudiced” in the court proceedings as well as in giving Judgments without any partiality after thoroughly hearing and studying the pros and cons of each case.
Since in the recent past many such laws like the “Section 498A”, ”The Domestic Violence Act “, “Section 125 CrPC”, “Child Custody” etc. are being “Misused” by the greedy and malicious ”young wives” who on some “False Complaints” and “Concocted Allegations” on their in-laws, harass a whole family for their “Personal Scores” or “Monetary” Gains”.
We have surveyed many such cases where the judges are “Biased and Prejudiced” towards the “Husband and his family” and “Over-Protective and Supportive” towards “Adulterous Wives” in passing orders of “Maintenance and Alimony” even knowing that it is a False Case; the judges are reluctant to give judgments in favor of a “Husband” as he is already supposed to be guilty and criminal before being proven one. They think it is their moral and ethical duty to support even ‘Adulterous Wives” by granting them favors, making adjournments by giving unnecessary dates to drag the case and finally giving a “Judgment” which is not justified as it is based on the presumption of the “Allegations” to be true without the necessity of them being verified. They are accepted as “Gospel Truth’ from times immemorial.

In the wake of filing of thousands of criminal cases under the new Domestic Violence Act by the daughters-in-law on flimsy grounds, several ‘harassed’ mothers-in-law have launched Andhra Pradesh Mothers-in-law Protection Association (APMPA) to protect the rights and interests of senior women in the state here.
Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, the Andhra Pradesh Mothers-in-law Protection Association (APMPA) spokesperson, Ms Padmaja, demanded that the government reform the present “wife-centric” domestic violence law giving equal protection to the mothers-in-law.
The All Forgotten Women Forum president, Ms Uma Challa, said that in the last four years, over 1,23,497 women, most of them being mothers-in-law, were arrested under 498-A IPC alone not for committing any crime under the law, but because they were related to a man.
The famous women’s right activist, Ms Madhu Kishwar, acknowledged the fact that IPC Section 498-A was misused and that a significant number of individuals who approached “Manushi” these days are mothers -in-law and husbands who were falsely accused of marital cruelty and dowry harassment. She said that APMPA would strive towards protection and welfare of such mothers-in-law in distress by creating awareness, giving them moral support and counseling.
The APMPA is the Andhra Pradesh chapter of All India Mothers-in-law Protection Forum, which was launched on September 6 this year at Bengaluru, followed by the launch of local chapters in Delhi, Nagpur, and Lucknow. She said that mothers-in-law were being discriminated against is spite of their generosity just for the sin of giving birth to sons and getting them married and were being forced to part with their earnings, savings and inherited wealth. They were also being thrown out of their own property at the behest of a disgruntled daughter-in-law. The APMPA would appoint president and other members next month, she added.

We will try to meet every Sunday and discuss cases of harassment
Odeal D’Souza
In September 2007, a 50-year-old lady along with her family members were arrested in the city, after her daughter-in-law levied false charges of dowry harassment against them and demanded Rs12 lakh as compensation. Two years later, she and two other women formed an NGO, the ‘All India Mothers-in-law Protection Forum (AIMPF)’ to fight against injustices that mothers-in-law often have to face in the county. This was launched last Sunday in the city. Neena Dhulia, one of the coordinators of the NGO, spoke to Odeal D’Souza on the forum’s initiatives and other related issues.
Tell us something about the initial days of the forum.
When we, some of the founding members of this forum who are also the members of Safe Indian Family Foundation, met for discussions, we realised that all of us faced a similar problem-false cases of dowry harassment filed against us by our daughters-in-law. So we decided to form this organisation that was officially launched last Sunday. Apart from myself, there are two other co-ordinators – Mamta Naik and Sahira Shiggon.

Chennai: After battered wives and harassed husbands, it is the turn of mothers-in-law to form an organisation. More than 500 from across the country came together in Bangalore to launch the All-India Mothers-in-law Protection Forum (AIMPF) on Sunday.
For some, it will provide a forum to be heard; for others, it is to break the ‘cruel woman’ stereotype that TV soaps have been reinforcing. So varied is the constitution of the forum that it has as members a university teacher from Chennai, a forensic expert from Delhi and a Karnataka surgeon.

Chennai: After woeful wives and harassed husbands, it’s the turn of mothers-in-law to form an organisation. More than 500 of them from across the country will come together in Bangalore to launch the All-India Mothers-in-law Protection Forum (AIMPF) on Sunday.
For some, it will provide a forum to be heard; for others, it is to break the ‘cruel woman’ stereotype that TV soaps have been reinforcing. So varied is the constitution of the forum that it has as members a university teacher from Chennai, a forensic expert from Delhi and a surgeon from Karnataka.
“In TV dramas, we are the villains; in real life, we are the victims,” said Nalini (name changed), a homemaker from Chennai, who has joined the AIMPF. The organization is being supported by the Save India Family Foundation (SIFF), a Bangalore-based NGO working for ‘harassed husbands’.
So will the AIMPF protect mothers-in-law only from their daughtersin-law and not sons-in-law? “Mostly the women are accused and dragged to court by their daughters-in-law. So we are focussing only on them. The organization is not against anyone; it is for mothers-in-law,” said SIFF public relations officer Virag Dhulia.
The forum plans to use its website, www.aimpf.org, to host discussions and debates. “The forum will take up issues, including amendments to inheritance laws and the Domestic Violence Act,” SIFF convenor Manoj David said.
Some AIMPF members TOI spoke to had horror tales to narrate. One said that whenever she went inside the bath to shower, her daughter- in-law would turn on the geyser from outside.
Supporters of the forum said that though there were several incidents of mothers-in-law torturing their daughters-in-law, there were also many mothers-in-law who silently bore the brunt of domestic violence. “There are several mothers-in-law who are victimised and threatened with Section 498 (a) of the IPC, which speaks of up to three years’ imprisonment for husband’s relatives in dowry harassment cases,” said Virag.
