The system is promoting dowry. And even if both the sides agree with affidavit that these are gifts and not dowry. Still IPC 498A is applicable. Recently in a case in Chennai, the 498A-wife complaint that after signing that affidavit dowry harassment started, even the ink could have dried up!!!!!!
